Blog Presence

Insights, Softwares, Websites 2 Comments »

If you are a blogger, you probably want to read your friends’ entries and put some comments in their entries, or perhaps spy on their entries and see if they have some interesting topic. :D I tried to hop from one blog to another, but it is just very inconvenient. Visiting 10 - 15 blogs each day is quite troublesome. I try my best to blog-hop once in a while but I really can’t visit all of my friends’ blogs. Worse, I forget their blog address or I do not remember to use my bookmarks, especially when I have so many things occupying my mind. The only practical way to “visit” all of my friends’ blog everyday is via RSS (Really Simple Syndication). I get an overview of what they have added in their blogs every time I open my favorite RSS reader or AJAX desktop / homepage.

Below is a screenshot of Netvibes. It’s my prefered AJAX desktop / homepage because it is very easy to use and it has growing numbers of developers creating and updating modules each week. I have added my friends’ blogs here so that anywhere I go as long as I have internet access, I can check their entries in one location. It’s very convenient and gives me more presence in their blogs.

The idea is simple. You treat their blogs as “news” source. Using RSS, you can easily syndicate their entries and digest them like any other RSS entries.

Now it’s more fun to read other people’s blog. :)

P.S.
If you are my friend and would like to update me with your latest blog address, please contact me immediately. Thanks!

Transformers Teaser

Randomness, Websites No Comments »

AutobotsAs a youngster, I watched a lot of Transformers cartoons (the original series) and I collected some toys too (LOL). It was still popular in the early 90’s. I was still a kid back then so I’m one of those young boys who believed that cars could turn into walking robots. :D

Things are different now. At least 12 years had passed since I watched the cartoon series and I was skeptical when I read last year that a Transformer movie is actually being produced — not a cartoon but a hollywood movie filled with CGI and real action. It’s real. Who would have guess we’ll get a movie based on toys and cartoons of the 1980s? The boyish part of me tells me to get excited yet I can’t anticipate that much because I might be dissapointed. I could not remember many details about Transformers so I’m very interested to see the first teaser online.

Interested? Then, watch the teaser here.

MeasureMap joins Google

Insights, Softwares, Websites 2 Comments »

Measure MapSo rumors were true after all. Google just acquired MeasureMap which I have blogged about several times. I was surprised when I read the news. It’s still in private beta and yet Google bought it. For several weeks MeasureMap had several glitches and bugs. I had experienced a fair share of trouble with it lately. It’s in alpha stage anyway. Regardless, it’s an interesting acquisition because Google had previously acquired Urchin, which track website statatics as well. Later on it was called Google Analytics. Having MeasureMap and Analytics, Google have a complete arsenal to gather lots of data on blog traffic.

Now that MeasureMap joined forces with Google I hope that the web app will improve in performance and speed. I’m also excited about the new features that might come out soon. I’m sure that most beta testers are eagerly anticipating the effects of this acquisition. Congratulations to MeasureMap team! :)

iTunesIt’s amazing how iTunes became so popular in 21 different countries that it had reached close to one billion downloads already. As Apple approach their one billionth purchased download, they have launched a countdown webpage to celebrate the event. Apple had also opened a contest starting from the 950,100,000th download. An iPod nano and iTunes Music Card will be awarded to user for the 100,000th song downloaded. The grand prize includes 20-inch iMac, 10 60GB Video iPods (5 white, 5 black) and $10,000 worth of iTunes downloads. In order to grab the grand prize the user must be able to purchase the one billionth song. In addition, Apple will create a scholarship in the name of the Grand Prize winner to a world renowned music institution.

Unfortunately the contest is only open to iTunes music store enabled countries. :(
