Solaris 10 on VMware

Posted by MV as Insights

VMware Solaris 10

I’m installing a copy of Solaris 10 in VMware right now… I hope I get this OS working.

UPDATE!

Click here to view Solaris 10 JDS mode screenshots

Here is my desktop PC running Solaris 10.
Solaris 10 in Windows Media Center 2005

EDIT: I removed the big screenshot of this thumbnail. ^_^; Please refer to the newer screenie I have posted.

Solaris 10 JDS 3.0 under VMware

This time around, I was able to use higher screen resolution. I could use 1024 x 768 resolution but I don’t want to cover the entire screen with VMware, so I set it to 800 x 600.

To utilize the graphical UI of Solaris in VMware you must run kdmconfig and choose Xorg (recommended). You need to reboot to see the effect. Later you would see the GUI under 640 x 480 resolution. Just run /usr/X11/bin/xorgconfig in the console to configure the Xorg settings. Be sure to read the instruction as it it quite straightforward.

Windows Vista

Windows Vista

Clear, Confident, Connected: Bringing clarity to your world.

Microsoft has just posted their Press Release confirming that Windows: Codename Longhorn will be called Windows Vista. Microsoft has also launched their official “Windows Vista” web page here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/default.mspx

Also, announced on the page: “Beta 1, targeted at developers and IT professionals, will be available by August 3rd 2005″.

On the otherhand, many people really debated about the name Vista and its significance. Actually I also didn’t like it at first but I’m getting more used to it. Vista means “sight” or “view” in Spanish. I wonder if Microsoft wanted a big facelift to get Windows a new “view” and perspective about their OS. Beside some people started abbreviating it as WinVi.

Here’s the reasoning:

  • Vi is the first two letters of Vista
  • Windows Vista is Windows NT 6.0. In Roman Numerals VI is the number six.

-Taken from Bink.nu

I’m already itching to get a copy of Beta 1! :P Let’s see how much it improved over the last significant update of Windows.

Moon = Cheese? Eeeeh??

Posted by MV as Insights

In anniversary of Apollo 11, Google had a very unique way of honoring the first landing on the moon. They added NASA’s Moon imagery in their maps including the exact landing locations. Here’s the landing of Apollo 11:

And to crack it all, if you zoom in close enough, the moon will look like cheese!

Drifting Tagaytay

Posted by MV as Insights

I attended my cousin’s wedding in Tagaytay, Batangas this morning (actually isa ako sa mga abay). On our way, we had a very foggy driving experience. It was until about 9 am that the fog was cleared. Anyway, here’s a picture of Taal Volcano from Max Restaurant where we held the reception.
